Windows NT Setup Walkthrough
CityStar® offers the following setup walkthrough to customers running Windows
NT 4.0. It should be noted that CityStar's support of NT 3.51 is limited at this
time.
Windows NT4.0 Configuration for CityStar® is a two-part process. First, you must
configure settings in your Network Control Panel, second, you must
configure your Dial-Up Networking.
Network Control Panel
Go to Control Panels and select the Network icon. The Network
Window has five tabs:
Identification Tab (optional)
- Enter the computer name
- Enter the workgroup name
Services Tab
Make sure the following services are enabled. If they are enabled, continue to
the Dial-Up Networking configuration. If these services are not present, enable
them.
- Computer Browser
- NetBIOS Interface
- Remote Access Service
- Server
- Workstation
Enabling Remote Access Service
- Click on the Add button.
- Choose Remote Access Service then click OK
- Make sure that the NT installation disk is in the proper drive.
- Click on the Continue button.
- Verify that the modem selected is the one you are using by clicking the OK
button.
- Click on the Configure button at the bottom.
- Under the Port Usage section make sure it is enabled to dial out.
Click on the OK button.
- Click on the Network button.
- Make sure TCP/IP is the only protocol selected.
- Click on the OK button.
- Click on the Continue button.
- Click on the Yes button to reboot.

Select OK to close the Network window. If you had to add Remote
Access Services, reboot your computer now.
Dial-Up Networking
Select Dial-Up Networking from either My Computer or
the Start menu.
Choose New and get the Phonebook Entry window, which has 5 tabs.
If this is the first time going into dial up networking it will bring up a phone
entry setup wizard.
Setup Wizard Walkthrough
- Click on the OK button.
- Name the Phone Book Entry, then click on the Next button.
- Put a check mark in front of the 3 selections then click the Next
button.
- Enter in area code (if necessary) and the phone # for the local POP, then
click on the Next button.
- Select PPP, then click on the Next button.
- Select run this script.
- Within the script listing, choose Generic
- Click on the Next button.
- Leave IP blank (even if you have a static IP.), then click on the Next
button.
- Enter in the DNS server IP: 198.6.1.218, then click on the Next
button.
- Press the Finish button to save Configuration.
You Are Now Ready To Dial!
- Click on the Dial button.
- Enter in the Username and the Password
- DO NOT ENTER A DOMAIN.
- Click on the OK button.
- Next you will see a terminal window.
- It will prompt you for a login and password
- The password will not show up when you type it
- You will then begin to see random characters scroll across your screen.
- When you see this click on the done button.
You Are Now Connected!
Manual Dial-Up Networking Configuration
Basic tab:
Select the modem. Alternate phone numbers can be added, and the modem can be
configured in this tab. In general, under Modem Configuration, you should enable
both hardware flow control and modem error control.
Server tab:
- Select PPP: Windows NT, Windows 95 Plus, Internet
- Check: Enable software compression
- Do not check: Enable PPP LCP extensions
- Select TCP/IP Settings
In the PPP TCP/IP Settings popup:
- Select Server assigned IP address.
- Select Specify name server address and type in the
addresses:
198.6.1.218
198.6.100.218
- Select Use IP header compression.
- Select Default gateway on remote network.
- Click OK

Script tab:
- After dialing (login): select Generic Logon Script
- Select the Before Dialing button: select None to use the
default MODEM.INF script for your supported modem.
- Click OK
Security tab:
X.25 tab:
Click OK.
You are back in the Dial-Up Networking window
Double-click the CityStar connection icon to dial in.
