Song Woman
began working in silver as early as 1950. Born of French Ancestry, she studied and sang
opera and entertained both in the United States and Abroad. Her earlier pieces until 1985
were marked H Z to honor her beloved grandmother, Hettie Zenor. She then changed her
signature with the musical clef.
Robert Redford appeared on the cover of People Magazine wearing one of her necklaces from
a gallery in Santa Fe.
All her leaves and added adornment are made individually by her - no two pieces are alike.
Her graceful, flowing designs reflect the eloquence of a Beethoven Sonata. |
| Who is The Song Woman? Meet
the artist Collette Divine...
"I started working in a rock shop during summer
months off from college in Colorado Springs back in 1946. I knew absolutely nothing about
stones or gems but my boss was a rock hound and a well known silversmith, Elmer Brown, who
had taught several Indians silversmithing. I literally became obsessed with soldering and
building from a plain sheet of silver; an object you could wear around your neck. At first
I copied the only style I knew that of the American Indian silversmith but as the years
flew by, I said to myself ' Hey, I want to create a "ME" kind of jewelry, I want
my own "look" . Like suddenly being "set free" and from here the rest
is history.
Equipped with a motor home, I acquired a partner and we took to the road doing gem and
mineral shows; that was 18 years ago. I had two loves really; classical music and singing
and with silversmithing seem to go hand in hand, I hear a beautiful aria and the music
flows with the flame in the torch and from there the design just comes alive." |
